The Tourmaster's
Special Bluebonnet Tour
through the Hill Country
Saturday, April 24, 2010
Starts just west of Austin
With abundant rain this past fall and winter a very good bluebonnet season is expected. It will be a perfect time to get out to the hill country to enjoy all the bluebonnets, spring colors, and beautiful views.
We will glide across the hill country at an enjoyable, unscary pace on some of the best bluebonnet viewing roads with several bluebonnet fields and scenic spots along our path.
- Climbing atop Enchanted Rock to enjoy the breath-taking views
- Picnic lunch at the base of Enchanted Rock
- A tour of an 'Old World' village (you do not want to miss this)
- Wandering down twisty roads in Coal Creek Valley
- Plunging into one of the most colorful wildflower fields in the hill country
- Stops at two scenic overlooks
- A Pie Run to a famous hill country cafe (known for their wide variety of delicious pies)
- And to top it off for those who 'can't get enough': A brisk-paced run to the drive-in movie theater in Gatesville.
(If you've never been to a drive-in movie theater, you must do this before they become extinct. Most movies look better on the big screen under the stars. It is a great experience.)
Come all or part of the day.
If you can't start the day with us, you are welcome to join us at lunch, after lunch, at the pie run or just before the run to the drive-in movie theater.
Whatever your heart desires and your schedule allows!
- The pre-starting point will be somewhere west of Austin.
(The exact location of the pre-starting point will be communicated to registered
participants via email a few days before the tour.) - Please arrive at the pre-starting point between 7:45 am and 8:00 am
where you will be given directions to the location of the starting point.
If you arrive after 8:00 am, you will miss the event.
(This is being done to ensure that everyone completes the pre-event sign in procedures) - At the starting point, each participant will be expected to sign the liability waiver form which will be followed by a radio check (for those with radios) and a drivers meeting. An FRS radio is not required but highly recommended.
- Our journey will start at 8:30 am.
- Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at the base of Enchanted Rock around 11:30 am.
- Pies (and dinner if desired) should be served around 5:30 pm.
- Run to the drive-in theater will be after dinner and pies.
Click here to read more about the the drive-in movie theater experience. - The movie will start just after sunset around 8 pm.
